Online Therapy in New York
For adults who want to understand the patterns shaping their lives and make meaningful changes in how they relate to themselves and others.
You may be capable, independent, and used to handling a lot on your own. That doesn't mean everything feels as manageable as it looks.
You may be someone other people rely on. You make decisions, solve problems, meet expectations, and keep moving when things are difficult. But the strategies that help you function well can sometimes make it harder to recognize what you need, tolerate uncertainty, ask for help, or respond differently when familiar patterns show up in your relationships.
Or your experience may look different. You may spend a great deal of energy anticipating other people's needs, worrying about disappointing them, or questioning whether you are asking for too much. You might understand these patterns intellectually and still find yourself repeating them when the stakes feel high.
Sometimes there isn't one obvious problem. You may simply recognize that the way you've been navigating relationships, work, family, or your own expectations is costing you more than it used to.
What we might work on together
Therapy may focus on one particular concern, or on several patterns that have become intertwined over time. Some of the areas I commonly work with include:
ANXIETY & OVERTHINKING
When your mind rarely seems to turn off, you may find yourself anticipating problems, replaying interactions, second-guessing decisions, or trying to stay one step ahead of what could go wrong.
RELATIONSHIPS & FAMILY PATTERNS
Explore recurring patterns in family, friendships, dating, or long-term relationships, including how earlier experiences continue to shape what you expect from yourself and others.
BOUNDARIES & SELF-TRUST
Develop a clearer sense of what you want, need, and believe, while learning to navigate closeness, limits, conflict, and other people's reactions with greater confidence.
PERFECTIONISM & HIGH STANDARDS
Examine the pressure to perform, achieve, get things right, or maintain control, especially when the standards that have helped you succeed also make it difficult to rest or tolerate mistakes.
LIFE TRANSITIONS
Make sense of changes in identity, relationships, career, family, or other parts of life when the ways you have understood yourself no longer fit quite as well.
SELF- CRITICISM
Understand the internal judgments that shape how you see yourself, especially when mistakes are hard to tolerate or what you do rarely feels like enough.
Therapy that goes beyond insight
Understanding why you respond the way you do can be important. You may already have a good sense of where some of your patterns come from. But insight doesn't always change what happens in the moment when you feel anxious, criticized, disappointed, guilty, angry, or unsure of yourself.
We may look at how your experiences, relationships, culture, and earlier ways of coping shaped some of the ways you learned to respond. At the same time, we'll pay attention to what happens when those patterns show up in your everyday life and relationships, and practice responding differently when it matters.
The goal isn't to become a different person or eliminate every difficult feeling. It's to understand yourself well enough that you have more choice in how you respond, rather than automatically falling back into what is familiar.
Lasting change doesn't come from insight alone or action alone. It comes from understanding yourself deeply enough to make different choices, again and again, in your everyday life.
Culture, family, and identity are part of the conversation
The expectations we carry about relationships, responsibility, achievement, independence, and family don't develop in isolation. They are shaped by the families and communities we come from, the environments we move through, and the messages we have received about who we are supposed to be.
For some people, this includes navigating different cultural expectations across generations, relationships, or parts of their lives. For others, questions about identity, immigration, family roles, or belonging become more noticeable during periods of change or conflict.
These parts of your experience don't have to be the focus of therapy. But when they matter, there should be room to understand them with nuance rather than treating them as background details.
